European authorities fined businesses more than €830 million ($881 million) for breaching the General Data Protection Regulation in 2022, with Facebook owner Meta Platforms Inc. paying over 80% of all fines, Strategic Risk Europe reported. The Data Protection Commission in Ireland imposed a €405 million fine for Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd. in September and another €265 million in November 2022.
