Engineering Manager
Full Time Remote

Job Description

Osano is consistently innovating and delivering new features to its core suite of products, and we want to accelerate our delivery of new products to this fast-growing market. We’re hiring an experienced, empathetic Engineering Manager to inspire, lead, and grow our Data Discovery + DSAR product pods! Being a manager is an essential role at Osano. You'll be their guide, sounding board, mentor, and more.

Sound like you? Keep reading!

Osano's engineering teams work in small, concentrated pods to improve our codebase. They have amassed a backlog of interesting technical puzzles and product initiatives. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable and experienced as both a software engineer and a people manager, and has led a high-performing team with avariety of technical focus areas and skillsets. Technical expertise in development approaches, ability to understand what motivates others, a track record of being a coach to engineers, and stellar communication (especially in a fully remote environment!) will serve you well in this role.

At Osano, we value candidates from all walks of life and are focused on building a diverse team. If you don't exactly meet all of the below requirements, don't let that keep you from applying. We're looking for people who are eager to learn and grow with us. If you're interested in being part of our inclusive, mission-driven, venture-backed tech startup, say hi!

The Role
  • Advocate for the Engineering team and keep their focus on high-impact projects. You’ll foster psychological safety, enabling them to take calculated risks and introduce creative solutions.
  • Lead a high-performing team and use available resources + tools to conduct quarterly performance feedback, weekly 1:1s, ongoing praise, and bi-annual compensation reviews. You’ll also manage the career discussions + path for a growing team of 5+ individuals.
  • Build upon our tech culture while upholding Osano’s core principles: Operational Excellence, Delightful Experience, Bold Action, and Authenticity + Inclusion.
  • Manage the process for hiring new engineers. You’ll champion recruiting efforts, collaborate on the Engineering hiring plan alongside the CTO, and work with our People + Culture team for creating a delightful onboarding and employee experience.
  • Partner with Product on scope + initiatives for the product roadmap and ensure delivery on clear timelines. You’ll also proactively identify and remove roadblocks for your engineering pods.
  • Contribute to small features and bug fixes without being a blocker for the team as needed. Our tech stack includes: JavaScript, React, Redux, GraphQL, Node.js, Kotlin, AWS, and more.
  • Regularly review pod delivery stats and product improvements, including: quality + productivity metrics and team morale.
  • Manage large-scale engineering efforts and bring the right resources to bear. As an Engineering Manager, you understand that you’re not the one typically doing the work and you must rely on the expertise of others. However, you'll also balance long-term efforts with short-term needs.
  • As we grow, you will manage the budget for your pods which will include: training + development, software services, and more as needed.
About You
  • You’re a former software engineer and bring a high degree of empathy for the challenges engineers face on a daily basis. You've worked with Javascript, React, have interacted with and even built your fair share of REST APIs, andhave experience with various technologies and languages that make up a full-stack codebase.
  • You have several years of experience managing others. You know what it takes to lead + grow a high-performing team, preferably in a early-stage startup environment.
  • You understand the business side of things and can provide context to the team to help them build empathy for customers + colleagues. You also know what it takes to communicate directly with executive leaders, owning the teams OKRs + providing updates along the way.
  • You’re seasoned at managing team members with different skill sets and technical focus areas. You are a coach and are able to have clear, honest, and open conversations to help your team grow.
  • You understand agile development + have a stance on encouraging and tracking quality work. You also ensure your team is actively updating + iterating on documentation.
  • You’re a stellar communicator, able to concisely and precisely convey information to others.
  • You’re able to understand what motivates + positively challenges others and use that to inspire your team.
  • You’re sought out for your perspective on issues ranging from technical puzzles to communication best practices.
  • You relish feedback from others and seek it out with an open mind.
Why Us
  • We’re a welcoming team that's dependable, curious, moves fast, and full of talented people!
  • We’re a B-corporation with a mission that matters, and we’re in a high-growth space with even more potential.
  • You’ll become a privacy expert, including the opportunity to obtain your Certified Information Privacy Technologist credential.
  • You'll have access to our training program, well-defined career paths, and a leadership team that values professional development!
